Dianne Deal has been raising and training Border Collies for the last 15 years. Riding and showing horses for most of her life, the transformation to the herding world was a natural one, getting her start into the world of working dogs by buying her first Border Collie out of the bed of a truck at a horseshow because she thought he was cute. She quickly figured out that she wanted more than just a pet. She wanted a dog to be her friend, to work stock and to compete with in sheepdog trials. The more she was exposed to the trialing world and the working Border Collie, the more she knew she wanted to be a part of it.
An open USBCHA handler, Dianne has qualified for the National Finals for the last four years. She has enjoyed success on the trial field throughout the west. Dianne credits most of her success to her mentor, Patrick Shannahan and the dogs she has been fortunate to have. Under Patrick’s guidance, Dianne has gone from a part time novice handler competing in one or two local trials a year to qualifing and running at the USBCHA National Finals, training outside dogs and giving lessons and clinics. It has quickly turned into a business that she loves.
Dianne resides on a horse ranch in Caldwell, Idaho with her family. She graduated from the University of Idaho in 1987 with a degree in Communications (Advertising/Public Relations with a minor in French). She maintains a close working / business relationship with Patrick and Red Top Kennels. Dianne started taking in outside dogs about 4 years ago mainly for ranchers who wanted their dogs to be able to work gathering sheep and cattle from the large summer grazing areas in the mountains. Now, most want to trial and others just want useful ranch dogs. She started out giving lessons by teaching those ranchers how to work the dogs she had trained for them, and that has taken on a life of its own. She now has quite a few students from all over the Treasure Valley. She maintains a close working / business relationship with Patrick and Red Top Kennels. Dianne is available for lessons, clinics, judging assignments, etc.
